1_10_14 We lost a friend early the other morning.  Rafael Davis was a 28 year old American guitarist and songwriter.  We played in bands together during our California expeditions and his solo album was recorded in my basement.

In the days following Rafe's departure, we adapted this guitar piece Dave had been working on, then i wrote the letter, and Sean Carney (of the Lotus Moons, Love Dimension) joined us on lead guitar for the performance.  Too young to go away.  Not gone, we carry you onward, inward all the same.  -shilo, NYC

Rafael Davis:  American Artist 1986-2014       Letter to Rafe: Fine, we’ve much to do & we’ll carry you from California blue we’re evergreen all for you scatter on these paths so true     (you) wide alive riding down the sky on an undersized motorbike mirrored eyes but you’d never hide you’d just never hide     & it got dark back there but that don’t make you disappear you made quite a mark back there that’s just how you reappear & it’s fine…     Fine, your soul is freed some day we’ll each take your lead such a rare, rare breed you got a lot of what these other folks need & I’m off to Manhattan with your guitar and a black pen while some will seek quiet lands some will speak with mountains     (chorus)     when I heard your song on the radio it was jubilant like a rodeo with a taste of the real, real snow we were far from where the cold winds blow So host our Justice! Torch some lies for the rest of ‘em And if you can hear this We’ll meet you right here in the midst of it…

Letter to Rafe:

Fine, we’ve much to do

& we’ll carry you from California blue

we’re evergreen all for you

scatter on these paths so true

(you) wide alive

riding down the sky

on an undersized motorbike

mirrored eyes

but you’d never hide

you’d just never hide

& it got dark back there

but that don’t make you disappear

you made quite a mark back there

that’s just how you reappear

& it’s fine…

Fine, your soul is freed

some day we’ll each take your lead

such a rare, rare breed

you got a lot of what these other folks need

& I’m off to Manhattan

with your guitar and a black pen

while some will seek quiet lands

some will speak with mountains

(chorus)

when I heard your song on the radio

it was jubilant like a rodeo

with a taste of the real, real snow

we were far from where the cold winds blow

So host our Justice!

Torch some lies for the rest of ‘em

And if you can hear this

We’ll meet you right here in the midst of it…
